Goodbye Wizard101, it's be a sweet time.

10 Things You Might Not Know About the Making of Wizard101 | KingsIsle Blog
Goodbye, Bartleby, it was fun.

I created this blog a long time ago to scribe my adventures in Wizard101. It is a great MMO, I do not hate it... that said, I am afraid I have to cut my ties with it forever:

  1. The cash shop is a money sink. I lost over $560 on booster packs just to RNG one spell which should have been part of the Life Wizard's toolkit in the beginning.
  2. Bosses are getting harder and harder to defeat with all of the stupid gimmicks in them.
  3. Finally, I don't feel any desire to listen to the story anymore. I finally reached Polaris with two of my characters and... I am done. I had to play with the dialogue off because I am sick of it.
  4. I have to pay $35 to unlock a seventh character so I can have all seven schools of magic in my account. :(
  5. The characters I play as are butt ugly. I only played as girls who look like china dolls. I know they are HD ressing the player character looks, but it's too little, too late.

So why else? Well, I am in love with a new MMO...

I give my life now to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn!

Yep, I am now in the FFXIV camp. This game corrects many of the problems Wizard101 had:

  1. There is a cash shop but the stuff you buy is mostly cosmetic, no need to buy booster packs - all of the combat-related stuff is only found in game.
  2. Yes, bosses can wipe you with dumb gimmicks, but unlike Wizard101, which is boring turn-based combat (who does that anymore?) FFXIV is pure action RPG fighting and you can avoid enemies if you so choose. The bosses are tough but you get plenty of breathing room to fight.
  3. The story is amazing and you can skip cutscenes if you already saw them.
  4. I did create three characters but only to experience the first part of the story in each of the three main hub areas - Gridania(elf forest village), Limsa Lominsa(pirate town) and Ul'dah(think Agrobah from Disney's Aladdin, this is my favorite area). These all meet up and you can have your character max every combat class in the game, of which were are 14(though you can only get 9 and you have to get to Level 10 and do your second class quest to get access to new jobs), so there is no reason to have multiple characters.
  5. Finally, all of the characters are beautiful, as it's Square-Enix, not some dinky art company in my homeland. They have tons of money to throw away in Square's pockets and I love playing characters like the cat-like Mi'qote or the cute Lalafell.

Okay, I admit it. I'd rather play as a cute halfling axe maniac than as an ugly china doll wizard. Sorry, KingsIsle, you've lost a fellow Texan... but you probably won't miss me. Maybe I can petition Square to MAYBE do a crossover event with Pirate101 where Bonnie Anne and Ratbeard appear in Limsa Lominsa after some goblins accidentally tap into the Spiral. <_<

Maybe.
